Discover Jacksonville Summer Camp 2018

Made possible by:

Discover Jacksonville Summer Camp is a summer day camp for newly arrived refugee children in our community. Refugees are families and individuals who have faced persecution in their homelands and have arrived in Jacksonville, Florida seeking peace, safety and a 'reset' to their lives.  The camp provides a helpful buffer between arriving to the US and entering the public school system.

World Relief Jacksonville, Kim’s Open Door and local community partners come together to provide a six week summer camp for up to 30 refugee children giving them the opportunity to enjoy summertime activities and prepare for school in the fall. Camp culminates in a Graduation Celebration on July 28th, where every child is given a backpack with school supplies (customized to their specific schools needs) for the upcoming school year.

The Top 3 Goals:

Individualized Education  |  Access to Creative Arts  |  Community Fun & Friendship!

The goal of the Discover Jacksonville Summer Camp is to provide a fun and interactive program in which the students engage in English learning and practice through language classes and interactive activities with volunteers. This program will be designed around situational and functional topics such as self-introduction, school experience, family and common American culture norms.  We also prioritize access to a multitude of art experiences in the arts such as music, drawing, painting and dance.  We also plan several field trips to fun and exciting destinations unique to our city each year.
